In a touching Instagram post, the Kiwi star shared a photo of himself and Tuhimata and explained the tough battle his friend faces after being diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumours (DSRCT) sarcoma late last year.
‘Kia Ora team, one of my best mates @roman_tuhimata has recently been diagnosed with cancer. It is a tough time for him & his family. His Gofundme page is in my bio. Any help is much appreciated,’ wrote Tevaga.
‘To show my support to my brother I will be shaving my head, for the length of his Chemotherapy treatment [eight months] it’s gonna be my last haircut.

‘For every missed tackle, error and penalty I will be donating $100 towards his Gofundme.. Gonna be an expensive season.
‘The brothers are also running a half marathon this April and we will all be running a full one in October.
‘All funds and proceeds will be donated to Roman.’
Tevaga also detailed the hardships his friend had suffered over recent months and some details of his diagnosis.

‘Roman is 27 years old. In Late November 2022 he was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive cancer – DSRCT Sarcoma, which is located in the abdomen,’ Tevaga wrote.
‘Roman endured months of pain and discomfort while working, eventually forcing him to wear his tool belt around his neck.
‘Multiple trips to A & E and to the hospital resulted in being discharged prematurely, after conducting many different tests.
‘Once the seriousness of the situation was realised, a PET scan showed the tumour that began in his abdomen, had now spread to his liver and spleen resulting in a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

Tevaga (pictured during the 2022 season) describes his friend as ‘calm’, ‘humble’ and ‘kind’
‘With his typical calm and humble nature, he [Tuhimata] maintains a strong positive attitude, that is inspiring.
‘He is a genuine kind loving man – all the qualities that make for an amazing partner, son, brother and friend.’
The donation fund for Tuhimata has already raised over $13,518.
