Love in a time of war and fighting for your beloved land seems complicated. You’ll never know when will be the last time you’ll ever set your eyes on the people you love — the last time you will get to hug them and smile at each other. This is the story of a strong expression of love that was shown during the most challenging time in Ukraine — a couple got married inside a hospital, and they were all smiles and were able to forget the effects of war for a moment.
The bride was a Ukrainian nurse who lost both of her legs and four fingers on her left hand. It was the result of a landmine explosion. Oksana accidentally stepped on a landmine while walking with Viktor in her hometown of Lysychansk in the Luhansk region on March 27. As soon as they were evacuated to Dnipro, she underwent four surgeries. After four days, they left for Lviv to acquire prosthetics for Oksana. In Lviv, the couple was able to exchange vows and I do’s — it was now or never for them.

The wedding was set in a hospital, and Oksana shared a touching video of the memorable moment. Despite losing both of her legs, Viktor, her new husband, sweetly danced her around the room, celebrating that they are now husband and wife. People who witnessed the dance applauded the couple for sharing the intimate moment with them. The couple’s amazing act of love was genuinely heartwarming — a piece of positive news in the middle of an ongoing war.
Viktor stated, “I was afraid to lose her. I wanted to cry, but I could not cry. I was shocked, I could not comprehend that it was happening indeed. It was terrifying to lose the person I love.”

He might have felt like they were at the end of the world, but his strong emotions for Oksana made him realize that a war cannot stop them from tying the knot. The newlyweds are hoping to leave for Germany to provide Oksana with suitable prosthetics and rehabilitation.
It is nice to see people finding ways to celebrate life even during the darkest hours. Watch the full video below and give it a heart for Viktor and Oksana.
