There’s nothing left to do, nothing left to say
Working through on my own, just isn’t the way
Sure, I’m a top writer, over $10k richer
But somehow, just Medium, isn’t filling the fissure
I’ve made some good friends, here on the line
They read and support, clap all the time
My guys friends don’t care, my girl friends are startled
And anyone that’s left, they’ve all departed
The rest take your side, or can’t see why you’d leave
A whole lot of thoughts, but none that I need
. . .
The thing that’s ironic, you’d make no pretense
You’d laugh if you knew, “You’ve jumped the fence!”
“How much is that?” and “Why would you go?”
“Time and money, for what you already know!”
Well if that is true, if I already know
Then say it out loud, WHY DID YOU GO?
Tell me the truth, tell me the reason
Maybe I can save myself, sometime this season
. . .
Perhaps the doctor can help, he’ll look deep inside
Find all the hurt and the pride, and why your heart lied
Or maybe he’ll tell me, like everyone else
Get over yourself, put her on the shelf
That ship has sailed, but you’re still in port
With our fading memories, put in a drawer
Out of sight, but never of mind
Hearkening back, to less bittersweet times
. . .
So what will I get, for one thirty-five?
A couch and a coffee, some psychiatrist jive?
I pour out my heart, while the clock keeps on ticking
Words by the minute, pen in hand clicking
It’s always been hard for me, to let someone in
To speak all the hurt, where to begin?
But I need to be open, not hide from the past
Tomorrow I start therapy; go ahead and laugh
