In the last 12 years, 19-year-old Rebecca Taylor has had 120 surgeries and procedures, seven-and-a-half organs missing that have been removed and more than 1,300 days spent in a hospital.

Pediatric pancreatitis has caused her unimaginable pain and has forced her to be on a feeding tube for the majority of her life. She also had her pancreases removed and is at high risk of other infection or illnesses.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease, which has inspired Taylor to major in biomedical engineering and medical school. She hopes to find a cure to help the thousands of other children who also suffer from it.

Helping other kids is what has kept Taylor motivated.

In 2018, with help from Make-A-Wish Foundation, she held a gala fundraiser, which eventually led to her foundation “Rebecca’s Wish.”

Through her foundation she has raised more than $2 million for pediatric pancreatitis.

“We are doing research, we’re helping with the National Pancreas Foundation and Mission Care to try to get the first drug targeted therapies for the pancreas,” Christyn Taylor, Rebecca’s mother and president of Rebecca’s Wish told KSAT 12.

In addition to helping with research, they also use their proceeds to help families who can’t afford to travel to specialists or long stays in the hospital.

“Seeing that their lives don’t have to be what ours was 12 years ago makes us beyond happy, and it lets us know that there’s a purpose that we have in this pain,” Christyn said.
