An American swimmer is now recovering after a very scary situation that could’ve ended differently if her swim coach didn’t act so quickly to save her life.
25-year-old Anita Alvarez was swimming at the world aquatics championships in Budapest when she went unconscious and began floating toward the bottom of the pool.

With help from a man, she dragged Alvarez’ unconscious body to the edge of the pull and out of the water, where she began performing CPR until medics arrived.

Once they got there, Alvarez was given medical attention before being stretchered off and rushed to the hospital.
Thankfully, the two-time olympian fully recovered and is now doing well, thanks to her coach’s heroic efforts.

“We sometimes forget that this happens in other high-endurance sports,” Alvarez told NBC News. “Marathon, cycling, cross country. We all have seen images where some athletes don’t make it to the finish line and others help them to get there.”
“Our sport is no different than others, just in a pool, we push through limits and sometimes we find them,” she continued. “Anita feels good now and the doctors also say she is okay.”
