A suspect has been arrested in connection with Long Island’s notorious Gilgo Beach murders.
Police were on the scene at an address in Massapequa Park early this morning, according to News12 Long Island. The suspect has not been identified.
The first of 10 bodies were found along the beach in Long Island in 2010.
Among the victims was Shannan Gilbert, who was found dead in a swamp in Oak Beach in 2011 – about a quarter mile from where she was last seen alive.
The 24-year-old’s neck had been broken before she was killed and had a puncture hole in it that could have been caused by a drill, according to her family’s attorney.
She has long been tied to the unsolved Gilgo Beach murders, with police finding four other women buried in burlap sacks when they were searching for her.
The four women would later be known as the ‘Gilgo Beach Four’, with all of them having worked as escorts using Craigslist.
One of those women, Megan Waterman was staying at a Holiday Inn in the town of Hauppauge on wthe night before she was killed. She was 22 years old at the time.
Six more bodies, linked to the so-called Gilgo Beach serial killer were found months later.
