Losing a loved one is hard and it’s something that doesn’t get easier to live with. The kind actions of a stranger are helping one family handle the grief of their loss in a special way.
Tami Avolia’s son, Travis, was killed in a shooting back in 2017. His murder came just one week after he learned he was expecting a baby girl.
Naturally, everyone was devastated by the loss and the now four-year-old Milan never had the chance to meet her father.

“[The shooter] didn’t just take my son. He took my best friend. He took his daughter’s daddy away. She never got to meet him. A week before, we were celebrating the gender reveal party. He was so excited he was having a little girl.”
To honor Travis, Avolia wanted to do something special for his birthday and she wanted to include Milan.

According to the outlet, Avolia explained, “[Milan] wrote a note to [her daddy], and I translated it and it says, ‘Happy birthday, daddy. I love you. I miss you. And I never wanted you to go away. Happy Birthday. Baby girl,.'”
They attached the note to some “Happy Birthday” balloons and released them into the sky.
Understandably, they didn’t expect to get a reply. However, a few days later, they were stunned to find a letter in the mailbox addressed to “Baby Girl” from “Daddy in heaven.”

According to CBS News, a Pennsylvania postal worker said that a woman found the balloons at her home and decided to mail a reply. The woman sent the family a small package and a letter for “Baby girl.”
The letter read: “I love your birthday present. Thank you so much. Daddy loves you and Mommy so much and you all. Here’s a present that I made just for you. Hope you like them.” Alongside the letter were three handmade Christmas ornaments.

The letter and gifts meant so much to the grieving family. It’s something Milan can hold onto forever, and each Christmas, she’ll get to look at her ornaments and think of her daddy in heaven.
