CANNABIS CULTURE – Sad news, Program Director of the Phoenix Tears Foundation and a giant in the field of cannabis research, Dr Robert Melamede has died.

According to a crowd funding campaign organized by family members, Melamede suffered a stroke on March 7th of 2022. The stroke left him with obstacles to motor skills and little function of his left side. He had been under 24/7 care at a facility in Colchester, Vermont later transferred to rehab center in Burlington Vermont.

Several traumatic health events would transpire including hip replacement surgery and the addition of a pace maker.

Melamede held a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the City University of New York. He had served as a Professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and retired as the Chairman of Biology Department there. He is recognized as a leading authority on the therapeutic uses of cannabis, and has authored or co-authored dozens of papers on a wide variety of scientific subjects.

His personal Youtube channel offers a wealth of resources on the doctor’s lectures and work.

No official cause of death has been published, though Dr. Melamede’s family released the following statement:

“Thank you for sharing your memories and kind thoughts of Bob. We know he was loved and respected by many around the world, so we plan to hold an online celebration of life in order for all to attend. This will take place in the coming months and we will share details here on Facebook and Instagram.”
