On Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Rams faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals in the biggest game of the year: The Super Bowl LVI.

At the end of the game, the Rams pulled in a win and the players began the post-game celebration. All of the players, that is, except for their wide receiver, Van Jefferson.

Jefferson played a strong game, but unbeknownst to him, his wife, Samaria, was rushed from the stadium partway through the game to give birth to their second baby!

As soon as the game ended, Jefferson heard the news and rushed to the hospital to meet his wife and hopefully catch the birth of his son.

Bridget Condon, an NFL Network reporter, shared the news of Samaria leaving the stadium on a stretcher. She posted on Twitter, writing, “I’m pretty sure I just saw Van Jefferson’s wife leaving the stadium on a stretcher about to have their baby. Talk about dedication.”

Prior to Super Bowl Sunday, Samaria had shared her thoughts about being 40 weeks pregnant on the game day. In an interview with The Athletic, she said, “I’m excited about it. Excited to play in the Super Bowl as well. … Two things going on. I’m happy about both of them. Maybe he can wait just a little bit longer, until after the Super Bowl!”

According to The Athletic, Samaria made her family promise not to tell Van Jefferson if she went into labor during the big game. She said, “He is going to play. He is going to keep playing. I said, ‘You play, I’ll see you at the hospital afterward.”

It seems that’s exactly what happened! Immediately following the game, NFL GameDay shared a video on Twitter showing Jefferson racing out of the locker room area to go to the hospital.

It seems he made it to the hospital in time to welcome his new son into the world.

Around 9 p.m. PST., Jefferson shared a photo of himself holding his newborn son on his Instagram story. Check out the sweet photo below:
