The moment a Pennsylvania dad was knocked down and bitten on the head in a bear attack in his garage has been captured on video.

John Swartz was filling up a children’s pool for his granddaughter at his Montour County home on Thursday evening just before the terrifying incident took place.

Once the pool was full, Swartz walked into his garage to turn off the hose, unknowingly disturbing a bear rummaging through the trash for food.

The bear bit him on the top of his head as it ran out of the garage.

Video shows Swartz tumbling out of the door and onto the garden porch as the bear flees the scene. He then hurries across the decking clutching his head.

‘My head hurt and it knocked me against the wall. Little did we know until we received the video as to what happened outside. I didn’t realize I fell over the bear and continued down the sidewalk holding my head and continued into the house to retrieve a washcloth,’ Swartz told Fox 56.

‘I knew I had injuries and I had blood coming down.’

Swartz ran into his living room where his wife called 911 and frantically tried to cover the wound.

‘We’ll never forget. It was horrible, but we’re lucky that it’s all that happened,’ Lori Swartz said.

‘He has a couple of wounds but they’ll heal.’

State police responded to the scene and within hours of the incident a Pennsylvania Game Commission officer had set up a bear trap filled with donuts and sugary syrup to lure the animal.

Swartz said that he doesn’t necessarily want the bear to be euthanized.

He said: ‘It’s very understandable as to why it did what it did. I surprised and it surprised me. It had one way out and it was through me.’

The couple’s two outdoor cats didn’t attack the bear when it crossed the lawn, but ran to Swartz’s defense during the attack.

The PA Game Commission is still waiting to catch the bear, while the Schwartz family say that they will be looking over their shoulder when going outdoors at night from now on.

Last week, a homeowner in southern California caught a mother bear and her cub taking a dip in her hot tub to try to keep cool.

Footage was captured of the brown bears splashing around in the hot tub together on Wednesday afternoon at around 1.45pm, when temperatures reached highs of 91 degrees

The moment happened on Wednesday afternoon at around 1.45pm when temperatures reached highs of 91 degrees.

Footage captured the brown bears splashing around in the hot tub together.

A video clip, obtained by KTLA, shows a cub splashing around in the water before the mother bear enjoys a playful exchange with her cub.

The two are seen playfighting on the side of the hot tub before the mother bear dips her front paws in.

She then jumps in and causes a large splash.

The two bears are then seen briefly playing in the water before the cub gets out and runs out of the frame.
