Intravenous drug treatment could become a little less stressful after a new study reveals watching comedy films can lighten the mood (and decrease pain levels).

People with rheumatoid arthritis having intravenous biologic therapy were split into groups; 18 people watched a humorous film during treatment and the other 18 had treatment as usual.

Measures of pain and anxiety were interesting and the findings reported in Holistic Nursing Practice. The team concluded that “watching comedy movies is recommended as a nursing care intervention for reducing pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in cooperation with other health professionals.”
