A kayaker is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a 6-year-old child that had become stranded in the middle of a river in Minnesota.
The kayaker, Dj Jones, was out fishing when he spotted a young child floating in the middle of the river alone in a life vest, screaming for help.
The boy’s screams were frantic and desperate, but no one was coming to help him, so Dj cut his line and paddled out to the child.

Dj was able to calm him down enough to instruct the child to hold on so they could paddle back to shore. Dj calmly spoke with the child as they paddled, reassuring him that it was going to be ok and distracting him by asking questions and telling jokes.
The young boy had initially been swimming near his dad’s sailboat with a life vest on, but his dad pulled the anchor up and sailed a few hundred yards away, allowing the child to be caught in the current and sucked out to the middle of the river.

Despite the child’s desperate cries for help and the dangerous situation, the father didn’t notice or care to help. Thankfully, Dj took it upon himself to save the child and get him to shore and the whole rescue was captured on Dj’s GoPro!
Once on shore, Dj was able to find some Good Samaritans to help get the child warmed up. They called 911 to have him assessed for hypothermia. The young child’s father eventually showed up and appeared to be intoxicated and unconcerned.

According to the latest update from Dj, the police are investigating the case alongside CPS.
