The hero Nashville police officers who took out transgender female shooter Audrey Hale, 28, at Covenant Presbyterian School on Monday, did so as she attempted to reload after firing shots out of a second floor window at cars below.
Nashville Metro Police Chief John Drake also said in a press conference Tuesday that Hale demonstrated ‘some training to shoot from a higher level,’ and knew to stand ‘away from the glass so (he) wouldn’t be an easy target.’
In total, Hale shot-and-killed, three children and three employees of the school.
The three slain children were identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney. Also shot dead were Katherine Koonce, 60, the head of school; Mike Hill, 61, a school custodian; and Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher.
The brave cops who brought down Hale, entering the building without tactical armor, one armed only with a handgun, have been named as Officer Rex Engelbert and Officer Michael Collazo. They were part of a five man team that hunted Hale through the building.

Security cameras captured her driving into the mostly empty parking lot of the school and the adjacent Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Chief Drake said police are still investigating what drove the killer to open fire on Monday morning at the Presbyterian school, where she used to be a student.
He said in an interview with NBC News that investigators believe the killer had ‘some resentment for having to go to that school.’

The glass front doors, which were locked, are shattered as Hale opens fire.
Pieces of glass fall to the floor as most of the two double doors is broken byt he gunfire.
She then steps through the frame of the destroyed glass door, with debris on the floor around her.
Hale then steps into the empty reception of the church, which is adjacent to the school.

Brandishing her assault rifle, Hale is seen entering a carpeted room inside the church, looking for any victims.
The room seems empty, as Hale exits it again a short time after entering.
The first call to 911 about shots being fired in the building came in at this time.

She opens a door into the next room and steps inside.

Hale is now walking through a wooden-floored building labelled ‘first’ in the footage, past an empty reception.
She stalks the corridor, then disappears from view. In the next four minutes without footage, Hale shoots six people.
She shot and killed head teacher Katherine Koonce in the hallway in an ‘assassination’ style killing, in addition to shooting church custodian Mike Hill and substitute teacher Cynthia Peak.
Hale also murdered three nine-year-old students; Hallie Scraggs, William Kinney and Evelyn Dieckhaus.
Police do not believe any of the students were specifically targeted.

10:21am – Cops arrived to find a panicked woman outside the school and a male standing beside a tree. The woman told them: ‘They’re upstairs!’

‘Let’s go! I need three!’ the officer yells as he uses a key to unlock a door and enter the building, where alarms can be heard ringing.

The video shows officers passing by bulletin boards and cubbies as they clear one room after another.
10:24am – Officers encounter what appears to be a deceased person as they close in on Hale
When the officers reach the second floor, one says, ‘We’ve got one down,’ before they race down the hallway to confront the shooter.
Officers move swiftly down the hall as intermittent shots can be heard in the distance.

Officer Michael Collazo, who was armed with a handgun, fired four shots at Hale. He then approached her body to strip it of weapons and checked if she was still alive
Seconds later, Officer Engelbert and Officer Collazo both fire several rounds at the suspect. The video shows the assailant still moving on the ground as another officer repeatedly yells, ‘Get your hands away from the gun!’
Earlier statements from police said that Hale had engaged with the officers, in the video, it does not appear that the shooter fired before being killed.
Hale was standing in front of a large window on a second floor atrium of The Covenant School.
Police previously released surveillance footage showing the shooter arriving at the school and gaining entry by shooting through a glass door.
The suspect is seen stalking through empty hallways as emergency lights flash, brandishing a rifle and entering rooms, seemingly looking for people.
