Sometimes, it just takes one small act of kindness to make a big impact on the people around you. That’s a lesson garbage man Mike Nance knows all too well.

During one of his routes in Norwalk, Connecticut, he happened to spot a woman who didn’t seem to be doing very well. She was alone, talking to herself, likely homeless. Nance felt bad for her, so he stopped his whole route to offer her some words of encouragement and even a hug.

He didn’t think anybody was watching, but Dave Kuban and Carlos Gonzales saw the whole thing unfold from their nearby restaurant, Dave and Charlie’s Hometown Deli.

The two restaurant owners photographed the moment and shared about in the Facebook group, I Love Norwalk CT!.

They wrote: “Shout out to the @city_carting employee who stopped his truck and gave a few dollars and a much needed hug to a young lady down on her luck.. if anyone knows who he is send him to the deli we want to buy him lunch.”

Speaking with News12 Westchester, Carlos said, “We just saw him hugging her for, I don’t know, I want to say five minutes if that. But it was a real hug.”

After sharing the post, word began to spread and it wasn’t long before the employee was identified as WIN Waste Innovations employee, Mike Nance.

Kuban updated his post in the comments, sharing a photo of Nance at the deli. It seems he took the restaurant owners up on their offer and came in for a free meal!

Speaking with News12 Westchester, Nance said, “Anytime you see somebody walking around with everything that they own, talking to themselves—I don’t know. It just took over me.”

He went on to say, “I love Norwalk. I’m from Norwalk. I was born here. So whatever I can do to help, that’s what I’m going to do.”
