Like many people, Joan MacDonald found herself ready for a change one day.
She realized her health was deteriorating and she wanted to lose some weight and get healthier. So, she set out on a weight loss journey that would change her life forever.
While many people start weight loss journeys and make pledges to live healthier lives, Joan started her journey in her 70s. Now, at 75 years of age, Joan is living her golden years as a social media fitness influencer with over 1.5 million followers!
As Joan shared on her website, her journey started five years ago when, at 5’3″, she weighed in around 193 pounds. She was on medication, had swollen ankles, and could barely walk up the stairs. Ultimately, she was sick and tired of being sick and tired, so her daughter stepped up to help her make some changes.
Joan’s daughter, Michelle, got her signed up for an online fitness program and taught her how to use an iPhone for the first time in her life. Joan recalled on her website, “It was incredibly hard work, let me tell you, and there were many days where I was in tears over technology but I never threw in the towel.” Instead, she pushed through and her life will never be the same because of it.

Joan started sharing about her new fitness lifestyle on social media, and people fell in love with her determination and personality! It wasn’t long before she began to amass thousands of followers who were inspired by her progress.
In an interview with ABC News, Joan said of her new habits, “Nothing is magical. It’s work, but it’s work that you can enjoy. In the end, you are going to be stronger and healthier, and that’s all that really matters.”
What an inspiration! It just goes to show that it’s never too late to turn your life around and make massive changes.
