Community Surprises Sonic Employee With Huge Tip

Hardworking people are everywhere. Unfortunately, they aren’t always given the recognition they deserve for all the efforts they put into their work.

That is why it is always so heartwarming to see hardworking employees get a little good karma in the form of random acts of kindness from strangers.

For one Sonic employee, a stranger saw how hard he was working and wanted to do something nice. That random act of kindness ended up going viral across social media.

The Sonic employee happened to be John McLendon, who works as a carhop at a Sonic in Athens, Texas. He’s got a great attitude and definitely a good work ethic, which was quickly noticed by one of the customers at his job.

One of the local Athens residents had first noticed McLendon’s hardworking nature, so they decided to record him on the job and then create a post. It was then that another Athens resident, Cassie Woods, saw the post on social media, and decided to do something nice for McLendon.

As she explained in the news clip below, “He shows up, he smiles, he’s joyful, he’s pleasant, he’s kind. There were lots and lots of comments and lots of shares of everybody just talking about how he was a great person. I was like, ‘oh, it’d be cool to do something big for him.'”

Woods then got on the post to ask commentators if they’d like to help her organize a giant tip for McLendon as a thank you for all his hard work. Her request then went viral, and she managed to raise $320 as a tip for McLendon, who was later surprised with the big tip while at the drive-thru.

McLendon was so surprised and grateful, saying, “It’s crazy. And then they’re telling me everybody was sharing it and like people wanted to send me money because I made their day. Just bringing happiness to the world at the Sonic here in Athens.”
