Your wedding day is always one of the most memorable days of a person’s life, but for one Indiana bride, her wedding day was a day she’ll never forget for another special reason.

21-year-old Kimberly Blosser, has been living with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) since she was 12 years old. HCM is an inherited disease that causes the heart muscle to thicken, and due to this, Blosser would need a heart transplant.

Her mother and brother also have the disease, and her mother had gotten a heart transplant several years ago.

Unfortunately, transplants can take years to happen, since there is a wait list of patients waiting for a perfect match. But three years after finding out that she needed a transplant, Blosser finally received the call she had been waiting for.

Four days before her wedding, the Cleveland Clinic called to tell her that they had a match for her. That’s when she and her fiancé, Tony Woods, decided to bump up their wedding so that they could get married before her transplant.

Blosser donning a simple white dress and Woods in khakis and a short sleeve button down shirt stood before a few family members and friends and got married during a small ceremony on the same day as the transplant.

After they were announced husband and wife, the couple drove to the hospital for Blosser’s surgery, which thankfully went very well.

Within the first three days following the transplant, she was already out of the ICU and back on the regular floor. Days later, she was already walking laps around the hospital halls.

Blosser is happy to have a new heart and is feeling great.

“If she takes care of it, and we take care of her, we hope for her to have a normal lifespan and a normal quality of life,” Dr. Emanuel Finet, Blosser’s cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic, told WYKC.
