Mrs. Goldie has been a teacher at Wilson College Prep for about four years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer over the summer but waited a few months to tell her students.
Now her students are honoring her for her positivity and drive to be with them even during cancer treatment. They nominated her for the 12 News A+ Teacher of the Week Award, and she won!
“We just wanted to give it to you because of all the things you do for this campus despite everything you’re going through,” said Alondra Rios, senior class president, when the surprise award was presented to Mrs. Goldie. “And you still are here being so positive and optimistic and so encouraging to us, so we just wanted to show a little appreciation.”

Mrs. Goldie has continued teaching through the COVID-19 pandemic and through her chemotherapy treatments, during which she lost her hair. For many of your students, her positivity and desire to continue being there for them is what makes her so special. So they were excited to surprise her with this award as a way to encourage her and thank her.

The students even made T-shirts to support their beloved teacher. The pink shirts read, “Fight until cancer is kicked,” on the front and “Goldie” on the back with a breast cancer awareness ribbon.

“It’s great to be on a campus where you’re supported as a teacher,” Mrs. Goldie says.
