After spending the first 460 days of his life in the NICU at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, baby Kendall Jurnakins was finally able to go home and received the sweetest send-off.

Kendall’s mom, Sparkle, didn’t even know she was pregnant until she was 23 weeks along and ended up going into labor just two weeks later.

Since Sparkle’s blood pressure was not regulating, among a plethora of other health issues, doctors had to perform an emergency C-section in order to save Sparkle’s life. Although they didn’t know if Kendall would make it, they had to put Sparkle’s life first.

When Kendall was born, he weight just 15 ounces and was smaller than the palm of a hand. He was rushed to the NICU, where he spent the next 460 days.

While he was being cared for in the NICU, he celebrated his first birthday, got his first tooth, and began crawling.

Finally, after more than a year in the NICU, Kendall is finally able to reach milestones in his own home. The Ascension NICU staff had a sweet send-off for the little boy to celebrate his bright future, and congratulated the Jurnakins family on a miraculous recovery.

For now, he will still have a tracheostomy tube to help him breathe and will still have a feeding tube, but he is doing great and will continue to flourish.
