Baby Conrad has not had an easy start to life. He was born with a plethora of medical complications, which led to a mandatory stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital.
It was there in the NICU that he met a nurse, Carly Miller, who helped save his life, and his mother couldn’t be more grateful for her.
In fact, she is so thankful that she decided to ask Miller to be her son’s godmother!
“I just looked up at her immediately and started sobbing, but I was like ‘did you run out of people to ask?’ and she goes ‘no, we wanted you!’” Miller told GMA.
Miller was shocked, yet ecstatic to be asked such a special question and joyfully accepted. She says being asked to be Conrad’s godmother means the “absolute world” to her.
Miller was the first NICU nurse that Conrad had overnight and they immediately formed a bond with each other. Despite being hooked up to machines and numerous IVs, Miller couldn’t help but think how adorable Conrad was.
Conrad was born with a lower urinary tract obstruction, and many of the babies who have this do not survive past utero, or if they do, they don’t survive past a few days.
“He is such a miracle, because he had so many things fighting against him, and he still does,” Miller said.
Although Conrad isn’t out of the woods yet, Miller says he is doing phenomenal and getting stronger every day.
