A man is riding his bicycle across the country to help raise awareness and find a cure for kidney disease.
He recently made a pitstop him Shawnee, Kansas, where he was recognized for his efforts.
Glenn Frommer is biking 5,300 miles to help raise research money for polycystic kidney disease (PKD).
Photo: YouTube/Fox4 News KCHis journey began in Northern California, and over the course of 100 days, he will make his way across the Rockies, through the Plains to Kansas City, up to Chicago and down to Washington D.C. Then he’ll ride up the easter starboard and end his long adventure in Boston.
For Frommer, the reasoning behind his journey is very personal.
The 60-year-old was diagnosed with PKD in 2014 and it has unfortunately gotten worse since then.

His kidneys are three and a half times the size of a normal kidney and filled with cysts.
“While I have the disease, I consider myself fortunate as I am in a position to get excellent medical advice, stay active and make healthy nutritional choices,” he wrote on his website. “In my case, the disease is progressing slowly. But I’ve seen how awful this disease can become and I’ve witnessed friends suffer without a cure.”
Although there is medicine that slows the disease, it is definitely not enough.
Sadly, the PKD Foundation can only afford to fund six or seven grants a year, which only covers ten percent of requests that they get.

Frommer plans on donating 100 percent of the money he raises to the PKD Foundation, so that they could fund more grants to help more people.
The money he raises will directly impact the health system’s Kidney Institute.
So far, he has surpassed his goal of $500,000 and now hopes to top $640,000 before he reaches his final destination by September.
