After two decades of searching, a young man finally reunited with his birth mom – and he discovered they worked together in the same hospital!

20-year-old Benjamin Hullberg had been adopted when he was a newborn. He knew he was adopted from a young age and he always dreamed of finding his birth mom.

Holly Shearer was just a teen when she placed Benjamin up for adoption. At 16-years-old, Holly knew giving her baby a new family was the best decision, but that didn’t stop her from thinking about him all the time.

While they both thought of each other often, it wasn’t until 2 decades had passed that they finally were able to reunite and it all started with a Facebook message.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Holly shared that she managed to find Benjamin on Facebook, but she wasn’t sure if she should reach out or not. She told GMA, “He was 18 when I found him and I was very hesitant. He had so much going on his life. … The last thing I wanted to do is to throw a wrench in his life. So I just watched from a distance.”

But on his 20th birthday, Holly reached out on Facebook messenger with a “Happy Birthday” message. When Benjamin asked who Holly was, she replied and told him the truth.

Speaking with GMA, Benjamin said that the news “hit me like a load of bricks.” He said, “I was crying. It was all very positive emotions. But to me, this is a day I had been waiting for the past 20 years of my life and to imagine that it was finally happening was outrageous. It was a lot to take in.”

Two days later, the duo reunited at a restaurant. The reunion was full of emotions and tears, and also a surprising coincidence. As it turns out, Holly and Benjamin had both been working at HCA Healthcare’s St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

They could’ve passed each other in the parking garage or worked on the same floor. They had no idea they were so close all this time.

For Benjamin, he described meeting his birth mom as a “dream come true.” He said, “There was a little hole in me that I didn’t know about and finding them really filled that in. I feel very whole, I feel very complete. I feel like I’m finally ready to continue in my life.”
