In 2011, Lindsey Crites, a 28-year-old nurse, was diagnosed with a brain tumor called pilocytic astrocytoma, but she didn’t let that stop her from living her life, or running a marathon.
Crites was rushed to Duke Hospital by ambulance to have tests run. The next day, they ended up performing emergency surgery to remove the tumor on her brain.

After her surgery, she went to physical therapy, which helped her get back to running as quickly as she did. Unfortunately, she kept getting really severe migraines over the next few years.

In 2020, her neurologists told her that she needed brain surgery yet again. After three brain surgeries over the course of a decade, she was finally on her way to recovery and a normal life.
Again, she didn’t let this surgery get her down. She turned to her passion once again – exercising and running. She began training with her husband for the Rock’ n’ Roll Las Vegas Race in February 2022.

And just one year after undergoing her brain surgery, Crites ran the half marathon. An impressive feat for anyone, let alone someone recovering from brain surgery!
Crites credits a good support system for her being able to get through such a difficult time and make such a strong comeback.
