Luke Liedy, of North Carolina, is only five years old but has already overcome more obstacles than most people will in their entire lives.

Four and a half years ago, Luke’s parents knew something was wrong and brought him to UNC Children’s Hospital. It was then that they would receive the news that is every parent’s worst nightmare: their son had cancer.

Diagnosed with stage four high risk Neuroblastoma, Luke eventually beat his cancer but then sadly relapsed with a brain tumor.

After undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, he is now a healthy little boy.

To put the icing on the cake, the two-time cancer survivor just received the best news recently that his scans were all clear. That means he has been in remission for almost four years now!

While flying home from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the pilot let Luke check out the flight deck before the plane took off. He also handed him the intercom and let him welcome aboard all of his fellow passengers.

Luke’s parents caught the moment on video, and his father, Bill, shared the video on Twitter, thanking Southwest Airlines for “making a young cancer survivor’s day.”

Neuroblastoma is a cancer that most commonly affects children ages five or younger. It is often found in the adrenal glands, the small glands on top of the kidneys. It can develop in the belly, chest, neck, pelvis, and bones.
