A wedding is one of the most awaited events in a couple’s life, more so for the bride. Usually, girls start to plan their dream wedding at a very young age — from teenagers until they reach adulthood, the wedding plan gets modified according to their preference at a certain age. The dream wedding gown changes, the theme, and even the flowers — it’s a continuous process until the dream wedding comes true.

Aside from, of course, the groom, a consistent part of the plan that must never be absent is the couple’s loved ones. The wedding would not be complete without the people who witnessed their growth and journey towards being married. It would be terribly sad if one of your most cherished people couldn’t be at the venue — sitting at the front witnessing one of the most significant events in your life. For Hailey Carvey, that person is her grandfather.
Hailey grew up without her father, but she experienced a father’s love in the form of her grandfather. Her Papa Jose Guzman was an important figure for her. The fun memories she experienced during childhood were filled with her Papa. He was a VIP on their guest list. The wedding plans were complete — everything from the venue to the wedding favors were all set. However, terrible news reached her and her groom, Ethan Carvey.
The effects of Jose’s prostate cancer on his liver and up to his spine had gotten more serious. Even the chemotherapy he was undergoing could not ease the situation — making his body grow weaker every day. It was a sad moment for Hailey, especially when the wedding was set in a few months. Her heart broke at the thought that her grandfather wouldn’t be able to attend her wedding.

The situation was too sudden, but the couple talked things through. Their decision was made even if the wedding plans were all done. Hailey and Ethan were ready to cancel all initial plans for Jose. Thankfully, her soon-to-be husband supported her decision. With the help of the Kalispell Logan Health staff, the wedding was successfully commenced inside Jose’s room.
You can definitely feel Hailey’s love for her Papa as she abandoned her ideal wedding so that Jose could witness it. He was more important than all the plans that made her excited for months. Jose was supposed to walk her down the aisle. Instead, Hailey held his hat while walking the hospital hallway.

The gesture was to show that even if he couldn’t do it, she was able to walk with him to her wedding. Ethan and the officiator were waiting inside Jose’s room — the ceremony was held in front of his bed. Before the wedding, Hailey approached and shared a tight hug with her Papa.
Hailey would not let her grandfather miss anything — it was all worth it for her, and it was the kind of wedding she wouldn’t exchange for the world. The wedding was a total tear-jerker, and Hailey and Ethan proved that you can get married anywhere if your loved ones are around you.

“I don’t know what I would’ve done if I didn’t have him there. I would’ve just walked myself with his hat,” Hailey told NBC Montana. The wedding happened most unexpectedly but was made even more special, and Hailey’s love for her grandfather was unconditional.
