April 14, 2021 was the scariest day of Scott Mussey’s life and a day that nearly ended it.

He was working on a farming project with machinery outside his Pleasanton, Texas home, when he heard a loud popping noise. He looked down and discovered his arm severed down to the bone, bleeding heavily.

He lost nearly half of his body’s blood before he was flown to University Medical Center by San Antonio AirLife.

Thanks to the Brothers In Arms program, he received two blood transfusions on the way to the hospital, which helped save his life.

The farming accident left him without any nerve feeling in his index finger or thumb, but it is a small price to pay to still be alive today.

Doctors told Mussey he would have to wait a year until he would be able to donate blood, and Mussey wasted no time.

As soon as the one year anniversary of his accident arrived, Mussey headed to South Texas Blood & Tissue Center to donate blood in order to pay it forward.

He hopes his donation will give other people a second chance at life, just like the blood transfusions gave him.

Not only did Mussey donate blood, but he also used South Texas Blood & Tissue Center’s brand new Alyx machine, which allows them to collect more blood cells and plasma needed.

Hopefully Mussey’s story and kindness will encourage others to donate blood to help save lives.
