Tricia Somers heard the news that her cancer diagnosis was terminal in 2014.
As a mother, she was concerned about her son and what would happen to him.
That is when she made the decision to ask her oncology nurse, Tricia Seaman, to adopt her son.

“Before she even said anything, I just felt comfort. It was almost like somebody just put a warm blanket on me. I’ve never felt anything like that before or any other connection with anybody else.”

Tricia spoke with PEOPLE, saying how she referred to her as an angel and that she was sent to help her son.
She said: “Tricia told me that the first time I walked in to take care of her, she just felt warm and at peace. She knew I was the one.”

Even though Somers didn’t know it, she was asking the right person to care for Wesley, her eight-year-old son. It seems as if Tricia and her husband had been trying for years to have a child. That is why she felt comfortable, even though they were essentially strangers, to say yes.
Prior to the time that Somers passed away, the two families got to really know each other.

Tricia said: “When Tricia was dying she actually said to me, ‘Stop crying!’ and I said, ‘I can’t help it, I don’t want to let you go!”
That was eight years ago and Wesley is now 16. He’s a straight-A student and, according to Tricia, he is exceptional.
