Receiving a postcard rarely happens in this day and age — people can now send messages in the blink of an eye through social media. It was a different case for Stephanie Schultz, who got a postcard in the most unusual way — but the postcard wasn’t for her.

In March, Stephanie Schultz, a cleaner who works at a local shopping center in Townsville, Australia, found a postcard during work.

“I’ve gone to the teller machine where I found it. I thought it was just a receipt, I was just gonna chuck it into the bin, and then I realized something was written on it,” says Schultz.

As she read through the piece of paper, which she thought was a shopping list, she realized that something else was written that was quite shocking. Stephanie contacted her acting supervisor and read the letter with her.

“Then I realized I probably should post it to the media, so maybe someone had lost it,” Stephanie continued in her interview with 7News Australia.

It was just a random postcard until Schultz’s younger colleague pointed out the date stamp clearly indicating 1915. The date shocked her — she couldn’t believe something that old would just be lying around in the shopping center.

The owner of the 107-year-old postcard was found through social media. Two people reached out to Stephanie via Facebook — both of them helped her trace the family of the letter owner.

Stephanie disclosed in the interview that the letter was written when the man was only 15 years old. The letter was written for a friend who later on became his brother-in-law.
