If asked just about anyone what color milk is, they’d likely say, “white.” It’s the color most associated with milk, like from cows, goats, pigs, dogs, or even humans!
Some people might be surprised to learn that breastmilk changes in both composition and color.
In addition to being white in color, it can also turn pink, green, beige, and as many moms are learning, blue!

She claimed her milk turned blue “because my son is sick so my body is producing antibodies to fight it off.” It’s more likely that the fat content of the milk turned the liquid a blue hue, but the mom’s theory wasn’t far-fetched.

According to research, breastmilk really does change when a nursing mom has a sick baby. The study found that “During active infection in nursing infants, the total number of white blood cells…increase in their mothers’ breast milk.”
In other words, when a sick baby nurses on their mother, the mother’s body responds by increasing the antibodies in the breastmilk! It can help the baby recover quicker and grow stronger.

It’s not clear if the increase in antibodies in the milk turns the milk blue or any other color, but it’s incredible either way.
