When 18-year-old Emily Meija, a Starbucks barista, was working the drive-through, her mother, Christine, pulled up and pretended to place an order.

Little did Emily know, she was about to receive the best news of her life.

Christine started ordering a grande latte with one shot of espresso and two percent milk. But her order got even better. She then asked for ‘one pump of CAR-T and 100 percent cancer-free.’

CAR-T immunotherapy is a cancer treatment used for blood cancers and one that Emily’s 13-year-old sister had been receiving. Megan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2021, and had been undergoing treatment for months.

She has recently been declared cancer-free, and their mother knew she wanted to surprise Emily with the great news.

“Really? You’re gunna make me cry. Are you serious?” Emily asked her mom in the drive-through with her eyes filling up with tears.

“Oh my god. You’re making me cry at work,” she continued.

Megan’s cancer battle has been a roller coster of emotions. After she received her leukemia diagnosis, she larked that she has a rare subtype which is resistant to chemotherapy. That’s when she received the new immunotherapy and would undergo a bone marrow transplant.

Although there was just a 25 percent chance of Megan’s siblings being a perfect match, all three of them ended up being one!

Emily’s mom caught the whole surprise on video, which Emily then posted on TikTok. The video went viral with more than 23 million views.
