Hero Teen Saves Boys From Drowning In Frozen Lake

You don’t have to be an adult to be a hero as one Pennsylvania teen demonstrated with an incredible act of bravery.

16-year-old Cory Hemberger is being hailed a hero following his act of saving the lives of two boys who fell into the frozen Lake Afton.

At the time of the incident, Cory was out on the lake playing hockey with a friend when he suddenly heard screams for help.

The screams were coming from a 13-year-old who’d fallen through the ice. His friend was trying to help get him out but was no match for the frozen lake.

As Cory explained to local news station, WPVI, “He was screaming for help. His friend tried to help him and he ended up going in with him.”

That is when Cory sprang into action and rushed to the scene with his hockey stick.

The teen then added, “I was kind of just in the moment. My adrenaline was going. My heart was pumping, so I just went for it and just hoped God was with me.”

As Cory was trying to save the two boys, he could hear the ice cracking beneath him. Luckily, he was still able to get them out with the help of his hockey stick before the ice broke any further.

His mother, Lisa Hemberger, had no idea that her son had become a hero until she saw a post on the social media site, Facebook, the following day.

The proud mom stated to the news oulet, “All superheroes don’t wear capes, some play ice hockey. I’m like, ‘Oh, my kids play ice hockey, let me look at that.'”

As she clicked on the post and began to read, she quickly realized that the message had been written by one of the boys’ mothers following the rescue by Cory. Lisa got in touch with the mom who confirmed it was her son Cory that had saved the boys from drowning.

Lisa said, “She wanted to just thank me for his heroic efforts, and that her son’s okay, and without Cory being there she doesn’t know what would’ve happened.”
