Sara Blakey Gifts Spanx Employees $10,000 And Two First-Class Airline Tickets

Sara Blakey, the CEO and founder of Spanx, shared that she’s gifting all of her employees two first-class tickets with Delta to anywhere in the world and $10,000 to spend on the trip.

The news came shortly after she announced she was selling her company to Blackstone, a global investment management company.

Sarah first shared the news of the sale on Instagram, saying, “People have asked me for 20 years, “When will you sell Spanx?” And for 20 years I would say… “I’ll just know.” Well that day is today. I’m proud to say I’ve partnered with @blackstone who has purchased the majority of Spanx.”

The news was met with a lot of positivity and pride in what she’d accomplished over the past 21 years, growing Spanx to a company with a $1.2 billion valuation in 2021, according to Businesswire.

Just a few days after sharing the news of selling her company, Sara announced that she had a celebration with her staff (with some in-person and others on Zoom). During the celebration, she talked about the company and how far they’d come, and how proud she was.

Then, she did something unexpected. She started spinning a globe, and asked, “Why am I spinning a globe? Why am I spinning a globe?” She continued, saying, “I’m spinning a globe because to celebrate this moment, I have bought each one of you two first-class tickets to anywhere in the world.”

She went on to say that she was also gifting each of them $10,000 to spend on the trip! Everyone erupted in cheers and dances and tears.

Sara shared a video of the moment on Instagram, writing, “It was an emotional announcement filled with happy tears acknowledging how far we’ve come. And then the tears really started to flow when I surprised everybody with 2 first class @delta plane tickets to anywhere in the world and $10,000 cash to spend on the trip. I really want every employee to celebrate this moment in their own way and create a memory that will last them a lifetime! Cheers to 21 years of magic and many more to come ….”
