Manfred Steiner finally saw his life-long dream of being a physicist come true, and he achieved it at the age of 89.
According to a press release from Brown University, Steiner already held two doctrates degrees in medicine, but he knew he wanted to do more.
Ever since he was in high school, Steiner knew he wanted to pursue physics. However, during World War II, he made the choice to flee his home in Vienna and eventually found his way to the United States.
Photo: Wikimedia CommonsAs the press release shared, his family advised him to take up medicine to make a good career for himself. They wanted him to be successful and productive and that’s exactly what he did.
Throughout the years, Steiner become a renowned doctor and even helped train countless medical students in hematology.

Despite his success as a doctor, Steiner knew he wanted to accomplish more. He wanted to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a physicist so he enrolled in the Ph.D. program at Brown University. At the age of 89, he graduated and earned his third doctorate degree.
In an interview with NPR, he said, “It’s my third doctorate, but this one I really cherish a lot. That I made it — and made it at this age.”
Speaking with the college, he said, “I am really on top of the world. It’s an old dream that starts in my childhood. I always wanted to become a physicist.”
You’re never too old to achieve your dreams and Manfred Steiner serves as the perfect example of that.
